Adventures in Crochet ~ Temperature Blanket Update

I just wanted to give you a glimpse into the status of my year-long crochet project--my Temperature Blanket CAL (crochet-a-long) for 2019! If you remember, this is a project where there are twelve different patterns--one for each month of the year. Each pattern makes a stripe about 6" thick. You simply use the average hi and average lo and match those to a predetermined color graph to find your colors. Then the pattern will say "use your hi-color" or "use your low color" and you swap them back and forth.
By doing this, even if your temperatures work out to be in the same range for the low and hi colors your texture and pattern will be different for each month.

Adventures in Crochet~ Catching Up with Some Baby Stuff

I don't have nearly the time to crochet now that school has started again. Mostly because we are so busy once school is out. But I've tried to work on a few crochet projects to gift to my newly arrived nieces and nephew! Yep, it was a baby year and we added THREE babies to the clan--one in July and TWO in September, only 3 days apart! I LOVE crocheting baby stuff. I've already shared the outfit I made for my July niece. But today I'll show you what I did for my September niece and nephew!

Earlier in the summer, I worked on making this

Thinking Pink and Baby {Wordless Wednesday}

I'm in the middle of getting ready for adding THREE babies to our extended family--2 nieces and a nephew--due July and September. I've not had the need to make baby girl things, until now! Now I'm on a mission to make baby girl goodness for my nieces to wear those first few months. And my photo for today shows my most favorite thing I've made thus far!

These are both patterns from my most favorite designer Mon Petit Violon on Etsy and Ravelry! Her patterns are the BEST!

Baby Girl Crochet Goodies {Wordless Wednesday}

I'm really meaning to post a few Adventures in Crochet posts since it has been awhile since my last one. I also have something super exciting coming up relating to crochet. But for today, I'm just going to share a couple little crochet dresses I recently made for my soon-to-arrive two nieces being born in June and September!

*****
These were made with the same pattern. The top one is for 3-6 months, the bottom is for 0-3 months. I love the bottom one the most. I plan on making a few more of these kind of dresses--because I'm finally getting girls to pamper! LOL!

Adventures in Crochet: My Pretty Pink Sorbet Tee Top

Pretty Pink Crochet Sorbet Tee TopStop the presses! I not only just finished another actual crochet GARMENT, but I actually like it! Okay, I LOVE it! So today this post will be short. It will simply be me showing you the finished pictures of my Pretty Pink Sorbet Tee Top and chatting about how the construction of it went! So if you are a fan of crochet, or are just curious to see how the top looks--keep on reading!

Pattern: Peach Sorbet Tee Top from Expression Fiber Arts
Yarn: Cotton Fair "Pink Pop" by Premier Yarns (3 skeins)
Hook: F (3.75)

I snagged this top for free in one of the free pattern Fridays that Expression Fiber Arts offers in their newsletter. I looked at the design and thought it would be something I could see myself actually wearing. I am so glad I snagged it! The design is very very simple--two pieces. You make identical pieces for the front and the back, and then simply seam them together. It can't get much easier than that.

Adventures in Crochet ~ Project Updates and the Temperature Blanket

Time for an update for those of my fiber friends among you of my Adventures in Crochet! All of this winter weather definitely has me in the crochet mood. I just love sitting on the couch with a cup of hot coffee or tea as I watch a favorite on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I have a pile of yarn usually somewhere around me in some stage of crochet and boy, is that a happy place! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to crochet for a couple weeks because of horrible sciatic pain in my left hip. I'm a side sitter when I'm on the couch, so that puts pressure on my nerves...at least that's what my chiropractor tells me over and over. LOL. Regardless, I've still been able to work on a few things, as well as line up some others! I've also loaded it full of pictures so you can see all my projects!

Frogged...

Before...
Well one of the biggest things I have done recently is deciding to frog (aka. unravel) a top that I first started back in 2017. Yes, 2017! LOL. Needless to

Adventures in Crochet: New Projects and Exciting News

It's officially December, and that means it's full on crochet time! I have so many projects that I want to get done or have started or have on deck. Today I figured I would share what I'm working on, what I'm finishing, and what I've purchased or snagged for upcoming projects. And then, I'll finish with some super duper fun and exciting news!

Finished Projects

I've knocked out a few hats in the same design. I love this Stacy Beanie with the puff stitch and slouchiness!

Adventures in Crochet: My Favorite Yarn Brands

Hello, my friends! Just wanted to give you another hobby update with my crochet adventures! I've actually put myself on a "yarn freeze" even though I hate it. LOL. But I refuse to buy more yarn, until I USE UP some of the beautiful skeins of yarn I have already. I'll be sharing some photos of what things I'm making to do this in a later post.

Now I have been getting asked quite often what yarn brands I would recommend to people wanting to explore crocheting. There are a dizzying amount of brands out there and yes, some are MUCH better than others--but it can be hard to know this if you aren't experienced or know what to look for. So, I will take time today to share my thoughts on some of the popular yarn brands you will find in most craft stores around the United States...and you will learn how I rate them and what makes the list as being the favorites in my basket!

Adventures in Crochet: New Projects and FibreShare

Brrrr. Hello from a blustery chilly NE Kentucky. I believe the weather got all screwed up and jumped from summer to late fall/early winter! This is not the fall I know and love! I need the brisk mornings that warm up into lovely 60-70 degree days! Not cold and damp and dreary! Who knows what's going to come next?! But on the bright side, this weather just makes me want to hang out inside watching Netflix and working on my crochet projects! So I decided to share a few updates in my little crochet world for those who like to see what I'm working on...AND photos of the beautiful FibreShare package I received from my partner in Wales!

Adventures in Crochet~ A Little Bit of This and That

Just popping on really quick to share some of the crochet things that I've been working on. Now if you've been following me over on Instagram, this won't be anything new...but for those who only follow my blog via email, I figured you might like a peek!

I found a super incredibly cute baby girl pinafore pattern and I loved how it worked up in these yarn colorways...

Adventures in Crochet~ Pattern Design and Pattern Testing

Adventures in Crochet~ Pattern Designing and Testing
Hello my friends!
It's another update in my Adventures in Crochet! I have really been enjoying building my skills in this hobby and it is so satisfying to see something that I have made when it's all done. I recently started really exploring the hashtag #crochetersofinstagram to discover even more about the world of crochet. Along the way, I have found some amazing crocheters and pattern designers out there! In fact, it inspired me to try designing myself! Over the last couple weeks, I have been working on a washcloth/granny square pattern and it's almost done! I also was picked to be a pattern tester for a popular designer on Instagram, something very exciting for me as it will test my skills!

Adventures In Crochet: FibreShare Excitement

Just a quick post to share some Adventures in Crochet excitement--because not only did I get my partner's package completed and ready to ship--but I RECEIVED my own package a day later! It was a yarn lovers dream!

So let me start with what I ended up sending my partner...
She was not a picky crafter at all--instead she was almost TOO easy. Her main crochet crafts are baby blankets and washcloths. She preferred softer shades because of the baby blankets. She also had never used an ergonomic hook before. She also loves to sew aprons as her other hobby. So armed with this information, I set out to put her perfect package together.

Adventures in Crochet~ Pattern Testing, WIP, and FibreShare (Take 2)

It's more than time for another crochet update. I actually sort of stopped crocheting for a bit when the weather got warmer and we started kicking our gardening in gear. But I'm back at it as I try to finish a WIP (work-in-progress) and am working on testing a pattern for someone. Oh, and did I mention I'm giving another round of the FibreShare a go? I hope you enjoy this little bit of catching up with my Adventures in Crochet!

Adventures in Crochet: Crochet-a-Long and 100% Cotton Yarn

I am just really enjoying exploring crochet. There is something satisfying about finishing a project or exploring new yarn. I think crochet is a giving activity. I rarely desire to keep for myself what is being made. Right now out of all my projects only 2 are actually FOR me. I think that's why I enjoy it even more. In this post, I want to share another Crochet-A-Long update and my newest project in exploring the world of 100% Cotton yarn.

Crochet-A-Long (CAL) Update

Okay, so since my last post, the newest block design has been released. It is a gorgeous block called the Crocodile Dahlia Square. But I won't lie. It intimidates me. In my CAL group, it seems EVERYONE has been having issues with it. It is very different in style in that you do the block

Adventures in Crochet: FibreShare, Crochet-A-Long, and WIPS

I must say that I have enjoyed my continued dive back into the world of crochet. I am totally in love with yarn and different fibers. I have learned about these lovely things called "indie dyers" which lead me to a whole world of absolutely delightful colors and textures! So let me catch you up on how my year long Craft-A-Long is going, the delightful package I received from my Fibreshare partner, and some current Work-In-Progress (WIP).

Crochet-A-Long Update

Moogly's Crochet-a-Long is progressing nicely! I have made the third block and boy it offered some challenges. I learned some new stitches

Adventures in Crochet ~ Craft-a-Long and FibreShare

Adventures In Crochet: Craft A Long and FibreShareI really have been enjoying deepening my interest in crochet. I have found it is very peaceful to be able to sit with my family and crochet. I also LOVE yarn. It's so colorful and squishy! Finally, I like the challenge of following a pattern and creating something from it! Because of this, I have decided to take my crochet hobby up a notch. I decided to enter a YEAR LONG craft-a-long project, as well as participating in a FibreShare swap!

The Craft-a-Long.

I decided to do the Moogly CAL2018 this year. The craft-a-long itself idea is simple--A group of crocheters all work on the same pattern at the

Now that it's 100% totally winter, it just feels right to be sitting on the couch surrounded by my favorite yarn as I work on a crochet project! My husband likes to tease me and say it's my "old lady habit", but I just ignore him. I love that I am able to create something that will keep my family warm.

Adventures in Crochet ~ Project: Easy Ripple Afghan

Adventures in Crochet~ Project: Easy Ripple Afghan
I mentioned in my previous Adventures in Crochet post that I had purchased yarn to start working on some easy throw afghans for my sons. I also had said I might start them whenever I got tired of working on my crochet top. Well it happened. I needed a change. LOL. Besides, I couldn't wait to start using that fabulous box of yarn that arrived!

I looked at TONS of afghan patterns but the ones that kept bringing me back were the striped

Adventures in Crochet...revisiting a hobby

Adventures in Crochet
When I was a little girl, my paternal grandma taught me how to do my first crochet chain stitch. I don't remember her teaching me more than that...maybe she did. As I got older, I have admired the way that friends could turn a skein of yarn into a gorgeous sweater or scarf. Others created handmade toys and stuffed animals. Every now and then I decided to pick back up my crochet hook and give it another go. So I would learn another stitch and another pattern. Then I would get busy and away would go the yarn and the needles. Fortunately, it was always like riding a bike. As soon as I pulled it out, I would remember everything I had learned.
