Give or Get--your choice! {Biblical Wisdom for Wednesday}
I don't have a lot of time to blog today, so I thought I would simply go for another installment of Biblical Wisdom for Wednesday. Today I was thinking about the word GIVE. It's a short word. A verb. It's a transitive verb. Meaning it requires a direct object to be complete. If someone says "give", the next response is.."give what?" Give is an action that requires people to sacrifice.
What? A sacrifice?
Yes. No matter what you give...you are removing something from yourself or your ownership. Or you are asking someone else to sacrifice.
Giving time
Giving love
Giving money
Giving help
Giving ______
The act of giving requires effort or denial of ones self of something. It's sharing also because you don't always give EVERYTHING. So why is giving so hard when it could be so easy?
My mom used to tell me that God's way is the way of Give and that Satan's way is one of Get.
Putting it simply--
God's way...the way of giving, is all about others.
Satan's way...the way of getting, is all about yourself.
So every day, we must choose.
Will we live a day of giving? Focusing on others instead of ourselves?
Or a day of getting--putting ourselves FIRST ahead of others.
I think we could solve most of the world's problems by simply choosing to give instead of get.
In doing so...we fulfill the words of Jesus Christ...
And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive." ~ Acts 20:35
So which will you choose as your mission for today? What will you choose to give--to sacrifice? It doesn't have to be a lot. Give a hug. Give a smile. Give a dollar. Give 10 minutes. Give a handwritten note. Sometimes the things we feel aren't a lot when we give them...mean the world to the people receiving them.
